Main Line Kettlebells

What is a Kettlebell?

A 'kettlebell' or handle-bell, as they are known in their native Russia, is a traditional iron weight that looks like a cannonball with a kettle handle. Or, as I know it, the single most effective tool for insane all around strength and conditioning.

The kettlebell goes back to the days of old, as it first appeared in a Russian dictionary around the year 1704. “So popular were Kettlebells in Tsarist Russia that any strongman or weightlifter was referred to as a girevik, or 'a kettlebell man’, “ writes the father of the modern kettlebell movement, Pavel Tsatsouline.

"Not a single sport develops our muscular strength and bodies as well as kettlebell athletics," reported Russian magazine Hercules in 1913.

Who trains with Kettlebells?

Any tough son of a gun who desires to be the absolute best at what they do. From Mixed Martial Artists (MMA fighters) to mothers who want to tighten their bodies to points previously unknown, the kettlebell has made its way into the hands of people at either end of the fitness spectrum. Many elite fighting units across the globe have become familiar with kettlebell training. Marines at Camp Pendleton, in California, have been known to take their ‘bells to the beach and suffer in front of many coastal dwellers. Mothers, grandmothers, and many working women get outstanding workouts on with Kettlebells. Professional athletes, firefighters, police, computer geeks, contractors, and regular folk the world over can testify to the effectiveness of kettlebell lifting.

Why train with Kettlebells?

Because they work.

What is the difference between Personal Training, Semi-Private Instruction, and Classes?

Personal training (PT) sessions are available as 45 Minute or Hour sessions. PT can be conducted in your home, at a local park or playground, or at one of the facilities I rent space from. Elite Athletic Club in West Chester or Yogalife Institute in Devon are great rainy day/cold weather training locations. Personal training may be an alternative for s a body that has been cleared for exercise but is not fit for class instruction, meaning certain injuries or medical conditions may call for the watchful eye of a trainer for successful completion of exercise prescription. Post-rehab clients and broken bodies with limited mobility qualify as such. I am skilled and certified to train with any form of resistance, from free weights to sand bags, yet the kettlebell is the tool of my trade. If you have home fitness equipment, it may be incorporated into your workouts. Kettlebells most certainly will.

Semi-Private Instruction allows for the focused efforts of personal training to take place, while including your neighbor, partner, or sibling.

Classes are scaled to fit both rookie, novice, and advanced kettlebell lifters. Classes are focused around familiarizing you with the Russian Kettlebell Challenge guidelines, kettlebell safety, joint mobility, flexibility/stretching, strength, conditioning, and all of the needs that life places on our bodies. I provide authentic Russian Kettlebells, manufactured here in the United States. I believe kettlebell training to be a practice of exercise which is superior to all other known methods of physical discipline for the obvious, and uncanny fashion in which kettlebell training carries over into our bodies’ ability to respond to the needs we place on it day after day.

Your physique will reflect the hard work you turn in under the weight of a kettlebell. In the group instruction environment, the benefits will be nonetheless visible. A kettlebell workout is a workout like none other. You will get your hands dirty; you will get your back into it. The kettlebell classes I teach are full of stoke and motivation. If I were a participant, I’d have tossed in the towel during at least one of the 300 plus classes I have taught in the last 3 years.

Classes are scaled upon kettlebell experience by number of times you have been to a Main Line Kettlebells strength session. I ask that regardless of your experience with kettlebell training, that you attend my Introduction to KB Lifting at least once. I will progress you to the next level as soon as I am sure that you can SAFELY handle a pair of Kettlebells.

All classes are 45 minutes to one hour in length.

Introductory Class:
Focus on kettlebell safety and proper handling of Kettlebells. Exercises taught include the swing, military press, clean, squat, Get Up, and various mobility exercises. You may attend anywhere between two and ten classes before I progress you to the next level.

Intermediate Kettlebell class:
